To celebrate summer, giant poppies have taken their place at the Château de Cheverny!
Since 11 July 2024, monumental sculptures in the shape of poppies have enchanted the Apprentice Garden and taken you into a colourful world between the château and the Orangery.
The poppy, that fragile and delicate flower of childhood, can grow in the most varied and inhospitable of soils. At Cheverny, some even have their feet in the water!
"Traditionally a symbol of freedom and adaptability, endurance and tenacity, and as red as love, the poppy is the perfect embodiment of Cheverny", explains the Marquise de Vibraye.
This field of poppies is the work of Alexis Boyer, a craftsman specialising in monumental floral sculptures. The flowers are made from synthetic glass, 50% of which is recycled material. The light plays in the petals, particularly at the end of the day, when their transparency makes the giant poppies even more enchanting, with shades ranging from amber to ruby.
This is made possible by a specific process and techniques that allow the material to be mass-coloured and protected from UV rays. Each petal is shaped and finished by hand, allowing effects such as veining to be added. The entire manufacturing process is handmade, making each flower unique.
It's an invitation to take your time and enjoy the benches in the apprentice garden or the terrace at the Orangerie!
